I am Betty Cupples, Department of Arkansas American Legion President 2023-2024. I am eligible for membership through my first husband, George D. Hayes, Jr. who was a 21-year navy veteran, and my youngest son Thomas Chalk, who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.I have been a member of the Saxton-Willis American Legion Post in Heber Springs, Arkansas since 2003. I have served in many positions, including Treasurer, Historian, Secretary, and President. I have been the unit president for the last 5 years. I have also served on several committees at the unit level, one year as District President, and one year on the Department Finance Committee.I am a widow and have been for many years, but I have five grown children, three boys and two girls, (one boy and girl are twins), fourteen grandchildren, ranging in age from 33-3, and eight great-grandchildren (ranging in age from 22-3).
My hobbies include reading, movies, music, dancing, and playing pool.
My family supports me in my membership of the American Legion Auxiliary. One daughter, two granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter are also members.
I am grateful for our military and veterans who help keep this a free and great country. That is why I work to help the veterans and their families.
